Alright readers, I have to admit that I have not yet tried this "miracle" remedy from Dr. Oz, but I am very intrigued, and so plan on trying it as soon as I get back from the holidays. I stumbled upon it while I was doing a bit of research on the effectiveness of my previous post regarding baking soda as a means of DIY Microdermabrasion. I'm a bit leery of trying anything right here before the holiday party season begins, so I am going to stick to my tried and true regimen for a bit, before I go back to being experimental in the new year!
However, I do believe that this "recipe" should work, as all of it's ingredients are well touted as skin-perfecting pantry finds. Dr. Oz is said to swear by this as a way to clear your complexion. Aspirin, as it is an anti-inflammatory, should help take the redness out of any pimples or blotchy spots, and the vitamin C in the lemon juice should also help reduce redness. (It should be noted, that you may not want to try this on sunburned skin, as I believe this might be a bit harsh for that.) You will use the baking soda at the end of the facial, much like you do in my previous post about Lauren Conrad's DIY Microdermabrasion. So, here it goes, and if you have tried this before, please let me know what you thought! I'll make sure to post my own results as soon as I try it.
Dr. Oz's Aspirin and Lemon Juice Flawless Skin Home Remedy
You Will Need:
1. At least 6 non-coated aspirin pills
2. A fresh lemon
3. 3 heaping tablespoons of baking soda
Step One: Dissolve the non-coasted aspirin in a small dish with the juice of a fresh lemon. You may only need half of the lemon to get the right amount of juice, measure by sight until you have a healthy paste.
Step Two: Use the paste as a mask, applying in a gentle circular motion.
Step Three: Leave the paste on your face for 10 minutes.
Step Four: Wash off with a wet cotton ball dipped in baking soda. Finish with a water rinse and pat dry with a clean towel.

So I tried this last night and I have mixed feelings, but will try it again. I have very sensitive skin, and I could only take about 5 minutes of the aspirin mixture on my face (it was kind of itchy.) When I went to remove with the cotton ball dipped in baking soda, holy burning batman. I was worried something was wrong and only did my cheeks (where I had a few spots.) My face was a little red, I sprayed my face with toner (I use Murad) and put on moisturizer and went to bed. My face felt clean and tight. I woke up this morning and my spots seemed to be a lighter and less pronounced and my skin (in the areas I withstood the burning from the baking soda) was very smooth! I definitely think I'll give it another go! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletedoesnt hurt as much as micro-derm, chemical peels. or lasar..Buck up..
DeleteYour face burning is the best way to know the lemon is working. I have been a user of this lemon remedy for my acne for about 2 months now and at first i was a little hesitant as most "natural" things i read about seem like a waste of time, but i assure after using lemon for about a month, you will begin to notice the effects!
DeleteI also talk about the effects of lemon if you'd like to check out my experience with the lemon treatment, visit my blog at:

@Barefoot in the Park; you said your face was burning during the process, that means it could be something that you usaully use on your face almost everyday and it's probally not use to the new experiment, or it could mean that your alleric to the ingredients. Just like everytime i changed over to the 'Dail' soap my face would burn and it would have a redness to it but when i kept using it everyday my face had got use to it... But now it's all good! It could also mean that it's working also, i know mine has!
DeleteBarefoot, thanks for trying this! I may reduce the time that I leave the aspirin mask on because I also find that I have sensitive skin.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I do think perhaps following with a toner is a good idea. I may "edit" Dr Oz's recipe a bit for sensitive skin users and lessen the aspirin time and include using a toner.
Great suggestions, keep them coming!
The "mask" burns and itches some once it is on your face but i guess that is to be expected. I only left the mask on for 5 mins instead of the 10 mins it says too. When you rinse it off with the baking soda OMG!! it burnt but only for a second or two. The after....my face felt clean and renewed...will i use this again. Yes It is worth the pain HAHA!
ReplyDeleteThanks doctor! I tried this mask last nite an I think superb change in ma skin but tell me how many times we ve to apply this aspirin mask....
ReplyDeleteAspirin mask is nothing new. Dr Quack didnt come up with it. Try 3-4 325 MG uncoated Aspirin with Honey. Let stand for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse of with just plain cold water. Then after that gently wash your face with whatever soap you normally use. You might experience a slight sensation for about 10-15 min. This is known as the Aspirin affect. Dont panic this is just a slight sensation and generally passes. Do not use this regimen if you have are allergic to Aspirin or have Rye Syndrome. I also reccomend using this at night as your skin will become slightly more sensitive to sun.
ReplyDeleteHow many times can you do this
ReplyDeleteYour NOT suppose to add the baking soda into the mixture! You make a mixture of water and some baking soda, then dip cotton rounds into that to take off the mask! The point of the baking soda is to neutralize the acidity of the residue left from the lemon AFTER your done with the mask, NOT before. Then, there is no point to adding the lemon. The acidity from the lemon is what helps break down old hyper-pigmentation/acne scars.
ReplyDeleteI would simply say to you all “awesome information”

This mask is awesome! It actually removed sun spots from my husbands face. I could see the white spots that were cleared up after the mask. I too us it on my face and can immediately see the difference in my skin.
ReplyDeleteIt's also alkalizing, which can help to restore your body's pH balance after a lot of acidifying (read: stress, junk food, caffeine, meat, alcohol). Love coconut oil for acne water first thing in the AM!

This is a great share, thanks for sharing such helpful post. Indeed taking care of the skin is really necessary.
ReplyDeleteHaven't tried this recipe but I am always using the lemon and honey for my face (aside from over the counter products I have on my part). I guess it is also as effective as with honey, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI kinda doubt trying stuff with lemons. i just used lemon on my face and gosh it stings! and its so itchy and i felt really irritated! my cheeks turned reddish. and even by the next day, it still irritates me even if i washed it with water for a lot of times!
ReplyDeleteWhat do i do? help there.
Does the aspirin have to be un-coated?
ReplyDeletemany people has allergy from aspirin pills what about them they should avoid or being external use its OK for them

its darker because you're not supposed to go out into the sun after applying lemon juice. you're supposed to apply at night and wash it out in the morning.
DeleteWaooow!! Nice blog, this will be greatly helpful.

Sounds great! I am just not sure with Sally Fernandes' comment - you might probably exposed yourself directly from the sun? But lemon does help lighten dark areas of the skin.
